RULES OF THE GAME

Rules

Schedule 1.  The games that will be picked from each week will be determined by the AP Top 25 poll.  In addition, each member is allowed to pick one team to represent themselves on the CFC site.  That team's games will also be included in the weekly picks should that team not be ranked in the Top 25.

Picks 2.  The format for the league is structured so that members are divided into 4 divisions of 1 overall superconference.  Each week a member is paired against another member for their picks.  Whichever member wins each game gets a point (2 points for exact spreads) and those points are totaled up for the week.  Whichever of the 2 members has the higher total gets a win for the week and the other a loss.  It will be possible for members to tie.  Points will also be important as they will factor in at the end of the season to determine possible tie breakers for bowl bids.

  3.  Each member is responsible for their own picks.  In order for picks to count they must be on time and they must be done in secret.  This league has been built on competing for pride so all members are bound by the honor system.   Each member is also responsible to ensure that their picks are submitted complete.  The commissioner will do everything he can to contact those who may miss a game or two on their picks but will not substitute one for them automatically.  As a special note to this rule (same as in the past), the commissioner will not look at any other picks which have been submitted until his own picks are made and submitted - no exceptions.

  4.  Picks must be submitted each and every week.  If a member fails to make picks for that week, they will receive 0 points for the week and an automatic loss.  Their opponent will receive points as normal and an automatic win.

  5.  Deadline for picks is determined on a week-by-week basis.  The default deadline will be Friday 8pm.  This will give the commissioner time to prepare the site for Saturday's games so those who want to follow along throughout the day may do so.  Some weeks this deadline will be different, usually due to Thursday night games on ESPN which include one or both teams that fall under Rule #1 above.  In this case the deadline will be Thursday 6pm CST.  Picks may be submitted for the week after this time but the Thursday night game will not be scored.  Whichever the case, the deadline will be posted on the main page as a reminder.

  6.  How picks are made:  For each game in the week, select a team which you think will win.  In addition, choose a spread that you think that team will win by.  Do this for every game that week, choose your name on the form, submit it and  you're done for the week.

  7.  How points are scored:  If you select the team that wins a given game, you are eligible for that game's point(s).  If your opponent does not choose the winning team but you do, you automatically get the point and vice versa.  If you both select the winning team, then the member who is closest to the actual spread without going over will win the point.  If there is a tie both members will receive a point.  If you and/or your opponent get the spread exactly right, then you and/or your opponent both get 2 points for that game.  It is possible for no one to get a point for a given game.  *Special note:  If you both select the winning team but also both go over the actual margin, the closest to the actual margin will still get a point (the league's not that strict).

  8.  Preseason picks:  The preseason picks are used as an extra head-to-head matchup between two members selected at random.  At the end of the year the picks will be handled just like any other week and will count towards another win, loss, or tie.  This is basically just another chance to move up (or down) in the rankings.  All preseason picks must be made before the season begins.  Any submitted on or after that date will not be valid - an e-mail will be sent to remind everyone of this fact.

  9.  Bowls:  At the end of the regular season, the Bowl picks will be used to determine the CFC Super 24 Conference champion.  Each division's winner will be eligible for the Mardi Gras bowl where the Conference champion will be decided - in other words our own version of the BCS simply called the 'BS'.  The two division champions with the best overall record will face-off for the championship while the other two division champions will face-off in the next bowl.  Everyone else will be invited to other bowls based on divisional affiliations with the bowls and how they each finished the season.  Everyone will pick all of the real bowl games for their particular bowl matchup.  This gives everyone something to play for throughout the entire season.  If there are ties for Divisional Bowl bids, then the head-to-head result will be used to determine the bids (BS voting for the top 2 bowls).  If there is still a tie then the divisional record will be used to determine the winner.  If that is not conclusive, then the points for/against spread difference will be used to determine the bids.  If all else fails, it will be left up to a flip of the coin.
