About the Senior Fellows
The Senior Fellows was established in September 1996 to
provide an opportunity for graduates of the Excellence in Government
Fellowship Program to continue their leadership journey through
ongoing opportunities for fellowship, learning, leadership, and
achieving results.
Our Vision and Values
The Senior Fellows are:
A Community of Learners
A Fellowship of Leaders
Excellence in Government
Results for the American People
The Senior Fellows Program, and we as Senior
Fellows, will:
Serve the interests of Senior Fellows on their
continuing leadership journeys and build and facilitate Senior
Fellows' contributions, as individuals and as a group, to shaping and
achieving improvements in the performance of government and
governance.
- Strive to maintain unity and clarity of purpose
in its mission and program activities.
- Focus on goals and activities that actively
strengthen results-oriented management and creative leadership by
the Senior Fellows.
- Work in close cooperation with the Council and
its other programs and activities, ensuring continued alignment
with the overall mission and goals of the Council.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility for use of program
funds and all other resources entrusted to the program.
- Set high standards and strive for continuous
improvement in the quality and timeliness of program activities,
materials, and interactions.
- Challenge participants, partners, and the program
to continuous growth and learning. Stretch participants, partners,
and the program beyond what they have achieved in the past, and
encourage and support growth and initiatives that involve
risk-taking in the interest of achieving important positive
results.
- Seek inclusiveness in all Senior Fellows
activities, welcoming and encouraging the participation of all
Senior Fellows, partners, and associates from the Council.
- Work together with respect and humility.
- Demonstrate respect for others by listening to
what others are saying , honoring commitments, being punctual, and
owning our own responsibilities and performance, strengths and
weaknesses.
- Practice open and honest communications in the
program and associated activities, and build relationships based
on truth telling.
- Acknowledge our own and others' resistance to
change and strive to balance diverse interests and needs in
resolving differences.
- Support each individual participant in meeting
his or her own leadership and development goals.
- Accept each individual's leadership capacities
and style, building on and learning from the differences and
strengths.
- Value whatever level of contribution each
individual makes to activities and to the program as a whole.
- Recognize successes as well as failures, share
praise for achievements, learn from disappointments, and avoid
focusing on blame for shortcomings. Commit to celebrating the
achievements of Senior Fellows and partners.
- Sustain the connections with and among Senior
Fellows and their partners in the program, which are a vital
element in enabling achievement of the results targeted by the
program and its participants.
- Maintain a supportive environment in the program
and activities, so participants can relax and enjoy themselves as
they work, grow, and learn together.
