| US Dept. of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigations Washington, DC ATTN: Paranormal Investigations Dear Sirs, I don't really know how to start this, but this is something I have to do. Maybe I'm trying to ease my conscience and maybe none of this had to happen at all. I guess I'll start from the beginning. I first met Melvin Lucious in fourth grade and we were best friends ever since. Melvin was not one of the most popular kids in school. He was short and chubby and had thin hair (he started going bald in 9th grade which gave everybody one more thing to tease him about) which always hung down over his eyes. He always wore old and dirty clothes and his pants never fit right. He always stank of cigarettes and mildew and had an annoying penchant for quoting historic figures and movie dialogue. He thought that would make him sound cool. But he was a nice guy and one hell of a poker player and although he got beat up a lot, he always stood up for himself (he hated it when they called him "Luscious Lucious") and the rest of us nerds. High School was not fun for any of us but during our senior year something changed in him and, at first, I thought it was the best thing to happen to our group of nerds. None of us had ever gotten laid, but our hormones were just as active as the jocks'. Girls like Kathy Summers and Rebecca Murphy were known for their promiscuity, but they wouldn't even acknowledge our existence. After Melvin changed, though, that really didn't matter. Believe me, I know how weird this is going to sound and you probably won't believe me, but it's the truth. Melvin discovered he had the ability of moving his consciousness into someone else's body. He could experience everything that person did without them even knowing he was there. And, of course, being a teenage boy, he immediately used it for sex. He didn't tell us about this until after the third time he pushed his way into Jake Fletcher's mind while he and Kathy Summers were making out at the lake. We didn't believe him at first. We told him he'd been watching too much "X-Files." But his newfound "power" grew in strength so that he was able to pull someone else's consciousness into the host body along with his. It wasn't long until we all knew Kathy Summers quite intimately. We had each seen every little curve of her naked body, tasted her warm and moist lips, touched things we had only seen in magazines, knew the smell of her skin and all the small passionate moans she made. But she had never seen any of us without so much as a shirt. But I should have known the fun wouldn't last very long. By the end of the school year, he was able to take over and control the bodies he invaded. That's when he started getting "revenge." The popular kids suddenly began failing all their classes. The prom was canceled. When university scouts came to see the star quarterback, he could only throw interceptions. The more powerful his ability became, the more disturbed and perverse Melvin became. His obsession with sex and experiencing as much of it in as many possible ways became more intense. I must admit we were scared to death of him, but we were the only friends he had. We were the only emotional support he had. We should have done more, but we didn't know what to do. But even so, we never expected what happened next. The entire town was shocked when straight-A student and local basketball star Chet Marks was accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl. No one could understand why such a well-loved, handsome young man with a good home and a promising future would do such a thing. I can tell you what really happened, but based on what I've told you already, I'm sure you can figure it out. I guess that Melvin thought if he used someone else's body, he wouldn't get caught. I knew that Melvin had crossed the line and we had to do something. I guess I should have contacted the FBI then, but what was I going to do, call up and ask for agent Fox Mulder? I'm sure the FBI gets hundreds of wacko calls like that every day and mine would be written off as the same thing. But I guess I still should have tried. The night of graduation was our only chance. Melvin wanted to crash the main party down at the lake. That's where the popular crowd would be and surely quite a few would be making out. But we convinced him to go camping with us for one last "nerd herd" get-together. For a long time we just sat around the camp fire drinking beer and talking about old times and just having a great time. Its a night that will live forever in my mind as one of the best times of my life because it was good to see Melvin laugh and have fun again. For a little while we were able to forget about all our troubles and what lay ahead. But I wish I could forget the rest of the night and what we had to do. When Melvin was drunk enough to not be dangerous, we killed him. I killed him. We had drawn straws to see who would do the deed. It was me. I was the one who plunged the knife into my best friend's heart. He stared at me as the life left his body and his pain shot straight to my soul. He sounded like he was about to say something, but all I heard was a gurgle and then he fell to the ground. I don't think I've slept since then. Every time I close my eyes, I see his face and the confusion and hurt in his eyes. The local police are still looking for his body. His parents are devastated and I can't bare to see them in this much pain any longer. I'm ready for this to end. I need to be punished. When you send an agent, I can show him where we buried Melvin. Sometimes, I'm not so sure that what we did was right. But then I think about that little girl and I wonder how many broken hearts and broken lives we saved. I'm convinced that, although what we did wasn't easy and it may not have been right, it is for the best that Melvin Lucious is the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated
