Heath's Short Stories

Grumpy Old Crickets  -   This story was written for a creative writing class I took at NSU.  Each day the teacher would give us a writing prompt and we would go home and write the story.   The prompt for this story was "would you eat a bowl of live crickets for forty thousand dollars."  I didn't want to write the typical "yes, I would because..." or "no, I wouldn't because..." type of essay like I figured everyone else would (which they did).  I mean the name of the class was creative writing!  In my story, two elderly men discuss the topic over a game of chess.

The Life and Times of Luscious Lucious   -  This story was also written for that creative writing class, but was not a response to any writing prompt.  It is a story about teen angst with a supernatural twist.  A high school nerd discovers he has some amazing powers.  But after he goes too far in his revenge, do his friends make the right decision about how to handle him?  Oh, and Lucious is pronounced "LOO-shes."  To view this story how it was intended to be viewed, download and install these fonts.

The Little Yellow Bear  -  Do you want to be depressed?  Read this story.  I wrote this story about three years ago.  I was in Tennessee working construction with my dad where  I met a guy who was depressed and moody and kept a stuffed yellow teddy bear.  He was the inspiration for this story, but most of the details are of my own fabrication.  I just took a great tradgedy in his life and retooled it for my own creative purposes.   Maybe that was bad of me, but it's what writers do.
