The International Council on Monuments and Sites, or ICOMOS, is an international organization that is comprised of professionals in fields associated with the preservation of cultural resources. ICOMOS is dedicated to the conservation of the world's cultural monuments and sites. It evaluates cultural monuments and sites for inclusion on the list of World Heritage Sites, and monitors the condition of cultural World Heritage Sites. In 1990, ICOMOS formed the International Committee for Archaeological Heritage Management (ICAHM). In 1991, the United States ICOMOS committee (US/ICOMOS) formed an Archaeological Heritage Management Committee (AHMC) to advance the goals of ICAHM. |
