We invite you
to assist us in our efforts to enhance management at World
Heritage and other important archaeological sites. You can do
this by joining US/ICOMOS, and selecting the Archaeological
Heritage Management Committee as your specialized committee (see
below). Archaeological Heritage Management Committee members
will be asked periodically to express interest in participating
in preservation activities, including the following:
1. Responding to questions about useful practices and technologies submitted by archaeological site managers and others with an interest in archaeological heritage management.
2. Capacity building for archaeological site management at World
Heritage and other important archaeological sites. Capacity
building activities might include training, arranging and
hosting study tours, arranging and hosting internships, or
extended assignment to an archaeological park or protected area
that is
developing management capabilities.
3. Related research activities that will be conducted as
demonstration projects for the development of site management
standards and protocols. Prime among these are cultural site
monitoring protocols, which will include the application of
information technologies to site monitoring.
To join us in our work to improve the management of our global
archaeological heritage, please fill out and mail the enclosed
Membership Application, marking Archaeological Heritage
Management as your specialized committee choice. For more
information, contact Douglas Comer, at dcomer@culturalsite.com,
